Abu Nawas

Abu Nawas is a legendary figure in Arabic stories. He is known as a poet, humorist, and philosopher who lived during the Caliphate of Harun al-Rashid in the 8th century AD.

One of the famous stories about Abu Nawas is when he was faced with a difficult problem by Harun al-Rashid. The caliph gave him the task of bringing a donkey to the palace, but on condition that Abu Nawas had to keep the donkey from running or stopping during the trip.


Abu Nawas then tied a pinch of straw in front of the donkey's nose. Every time the donkey tried to walk, it would try to bite the straw, but could not because it was tied. On the way to the palace, the donkey kept walking, but never made it forward because it kept getting stuck by the straw in front of its nose.


When Abu Nawas arrived at the palace and reported his duties to Harun al-Rashid, the caliph was amazed. Abu Nawas explained that the donkey did not walk and did not stop, according to orders. Harun al-Rashid realized his own mistake in giving such an unreasonable order.
